Growth and Positioning Strategies for Associations

Client Stories

Vertical Leap Consulting case studies describing experiences assisting clients with varying issues with their organizations.

The following is a partial list of our clients.

Chicago-based American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP) wanted to elevate the impact of their specialty on improving the quality of lives for those with skin diseases. The board felt it would be important to take a step back and assess how the governance structure and processes of their specialty medical society might be augmented to prepare the association to build upon its prior success. Leah McCrackin, ASDP Executive Director, recognized structure should follow vision, and there was concern in conducting an assessment purely based upon ASDP’s current state. Leah contacted us to explain her challenge. Together, we designed a process that would surface actionable insights relative to strategic opportunities and governance effectiveness.

When Mike Canning became President and CEO of the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC), the most important objectives on his plate were: To position his trade association for growth, and To craft and communicate a compelling value premise to various stakeholder groups. Because the Pet Industry is quite fragmented, effectively engaging industry executives would be critical to expanding PIJAC’s capacity to proactively address the industry’s legislative and regulatory challenges.

As the newly appointed CEO of ALFA, the trade association for senior living, Rick Grimes realized that he had a massive turnaround on his hands. We worked with Rick to quickly assess his options and he asked his board to take a calculated leap of faith. Reflecting back, he says: “Like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when backed up to a cliff, I saw our options as stay put and die, or jump and pray for deep water.”
