I've admired and benefited from Steve's counsel for more than a decade. Most recently, I hired Steve and Vertical Leap to help shepherd our organization (global trade association) through a strategic transformation, designed to help enable us to respond to a massively different emerging membership base and anticipate the needs of a dynamic industry at the forefront of some of the world's leading technological advancements. The methodology Steve used with the Board and executive staff was unique but crafted specifically for our needs and the reality of our culture. The process was intense but, in the end, engendered deep ownership by all of the stakeholders. Once effectuated, the organization will emerge as looking very different than it has in the past. Steve Lane is someone all of my fellow association Presidents/CEO’s should know. Steve was a great help to my Board and me this year, designing and facilitating a multi-tiered strategic planning process. As prep work ahead of the strategic planning session, he conducted extensive one-on-one interviews with my Board members, allowing them to give honest and open input in a way that was kept anonymous from other members and from me. (Being new to the organization) the themes that surfaced helped prepare me ahead of the discussion with the Board, showing me what to anticipate and what to emphasize. Steve designed a two-day process that got my Board members talking to each other and generating lots of ideas. He then helped all of us prioritize the output and condense it into a three-year plan. Throughout the process, Steve was a resource for me, coaching me on how best to involve both Board members and senior staff in the strategic planning discussions to achieve maximum buy-in for the implementation phase.
